Excel Data Extraction Empty Excel Data Extraction

Post by Ashraf Wed Apr 03, 2019 11:17 pm

    Hey Team,

I am trying to extract unstructured data from Excel, meaning there are data in rows and the rows number changes from file to file.

Anyone familiar with how to set a tag finder in excel?

    Thanks,

    AO

    Hi,

For Excel you should have a look at the Set Named Range action. If you right click your target cell in the Excel sheet, select Other -> Set as Named Range this will create the action which you can then adjust if required.

    Excel Data Extraction Set_na10

This will attempt to create Range Finder based on the content of the cell value (in this case the word Purchase Order), but if you need to adjust it to cater for variations you can use pattern matching or other techniques to make the finder more robust by modifying the cell pattern.

    Excel Data Extraction Range_10

Kapow will automatically create a name for the range, but if you want to make this more user friendly a custom name can be added on the Action tab.

As an example, to use your range finder in subsequent steps you could add an Extract Cell action and set the finder for that action to use the range defined, this allows you to extract content in relation to those ranges e.g. 2 cells to the right of the keyword. In the example below, you'll see an Extract Cell action using the range "ID" which searches 2 columns to the right of that for the value.

    Excel Data Extraction Extrac10

    Hope this helps
